Oral storytelling is an ancient, but always fresh, art form with proven power to change lives and impact communities. This is why Story Arts of MN (SAM) has a dual mission: to promote the story arts, and to develop and support storytellers. SAM is a volunteer-run organization with very low operational expenses. Donations support public programs that showcase storytelling for both young and adult audiences, in particular the annual StoryFest, an all-day celebration that will take place this year on March 28 in Bloomington, MN.
Give to the Max Day (GTMD) is a Minnesota-wide fundraising effort for nonprofits and schools, which last year generated $37 million in donations to 6,556 nonprofits and schools. More than $1,100 was earmarked by donors for SAM. This year we hope to receive $1,500. GTMD25's theme of "gathering to give" resonates for SAM, whose main purpose is to bring people together to tell and hear stories--all types of people and all sorts of stories. SAM reaches and grows a community of story lovers to make our world a better place for all.
