  • Black Forest Inn's Festsaal Room 1 East 26th Street Minneapolis, MN, 55404 United States (map)

Join Folk and Fiction Storytelling for our launch night! We start with an 8-minute open mic where you can tell your favorite tall tale, traditional story, lie, etc, followed by feature storyteller, Twin Cities favorite Loren Niemi. Sign ups start at 6:30pm, we begin at 7:00.

$10 requested donation.

Loren Niemi began as a child fibber but soon decided that he was less interested in telling lies than in improving the truth.

He is an innovative storyteller creating, coaching/directing, performing, teaching and writing about stories that matter for audiences of all ages in urban and rural settings. It has been said that Loren tells the life he lives with immediacy, poetic imagery and insight.

He is a published author and poet. His new book, What Haunts Us (from MoonFire Publishing) is a collection of non-traditional ghost stories. Other publications include the poetry chapbook, Coyote Flies Coach, the award winning The New Book of Plots on the use of oral and written narratives and the critically acclaimed, Inviting the Wolf In: Thinking About Difficult Stories which he co-authored with Elizabeth Ellis on the value and necessity of stories that are hard to hear and harder to tell.

About the Folk and Fiction series:

Truth can live in the heart of a fairy tale, horror can help us name the unspeakable, tall tales can make us roar with laughter. Folk and Fiction is dedicated to stories told aloud (ideally without paper) that are not true, personal, or factual. Join us on the fourth Friday of the month from January through June for folktales, fiction, speculative work, and outright lies.

Each evening will include 4-6 eight minute open mic slots followed by a featured performer. Arrive by 6:55 to put your name in the hat to try your luck and do some creative storytelling.
Requested $10+ donation per person. Artists should be paid for their work and the venue deserves their rent. At the Black Forest Inn Festsaal Room, 1 East 26th St. Minneapolis.
Hosted by Laura Packer (https://www.facebook.com/laurapackerstoryteller/).
