ST. PAUL: Festival of Nations (not open to public)

Story Arts of Minnesota is providing live storytelling at the heart of the Festival’s Marketplace Bazaar. A diverse group of tellers will share tales from their own or their ancestors’ homelands.

Events on Thursday, May 2, and Friday, May 3, are open only to groups of students and teachers. The Festival opens to the public at 3:00pm on Friday. The public is invited to all storytelling shows on Saturday, May 4, and Sunday, May 5.

Schedule for Friday, May 3

10:00-10:30 am  Danielle Daniel shares vivacious African American stories along with musician Tony Paul. Her programs have a swirl of characters and have received rave reviews from educators, parents, and most importantly, students of all ages. www.danielledaniel77.com

12:00-12:30 pm  Larry Johnson tells tales from Germany where he walked in the woods on WANDERMARSCH when he lived there as an army medic and from Scandinavia, home of the Nobel Peace Prize. Because none of his Swedish relatives ever threw anything out, he also plays MUSIC FOR WEAPONS AND WASTE REDUCTION on items rescued from the landfills of the world.

1:00-1:30 pm  Rodger Roan Eagle, a Lakota Elder, speaks about the Dream Catcher legends. He tells how they came about and about their spiritual place in Oglala, Sioux and American Indian culture.

2:00-2:30 pm  Carol McCormick shares Czechoslovak and Irish tales to tickle your funny bone and convey wisdom. She has 30+ years of experience telling stories to audiences of all ages.  www.carolmccormick.net
